HALFWAY!

We are now officially a bit more than halfway through the 2019 season, unbelievably. It seems there are 82 days behind and 77 days ahead (but who’s counting) until closing day, October 28. To say it doesn’t seem possible is an understatement. There is so much planning and excitement (and stress!) that goes into the off-season preparing for “The Season” that once we actually open it’s almost anticlimactic. Almost. And sometimes the weeks ahead feel insurmountable with countless reservations pending. But then it starts, slowly at first, picking up after the Fourth of July, and flying along without taking a breath through July and well into August. As kids go back to school there’s a bit of a lull, then it heats up again to a peak in October before winding down to the end.
Guests check in, guests check out, day after day, and, to some extent, we’re doing the same things over and over again. At the same time, it’s really never the same from week to week! Just this past weekend we hosted a wedding right here on the property! Now, that’s something that doesn’t happen every day or week – or even every year. A month ago we hosted a Lodge-full of wedding guests, all family of the bride and groom, that had a wonderful time connecting and re-connecting over breakfast and late afternoon cocktails in the gazebo.
The following weekend saw old friends gathering here as they’ve done for the past – what, 30? 40? years. Five or six rooms of the same occupants every year at the same time. What a tradition! And we get to be a part of it.
The weekend after that was a family reunion of relations from all over the US, many of them here in Door County for the first time ever, occupying ten of our 14 rooms. They absolutely had a ball, and we loved having them here.
Next weekend six rooms will be occupied by friends and family of a long-time LL guest who now lives in Arizona. He keeps calling to ask about the temperature here – which, by the way, is about 30 degrees cooler than what he’s experiencing at his home! He’s excited about showing off his stomping grounds to his guests, and we’re excited to have all of them here for a few days.
The Liberty Lodge is such a special place for so many people, and especially for those of us working here. We get such a kick out of seeing old friends coming in the door, and saying goodbye to new friends that we are sure will return again and again.
The Liberty Lodge is so much more than just a place to lay your head; it’s a lovely respite from everyday life, and the best place we know to make lifelong memories.
